Office 8.2 Product Launch Press Conference Next Software
announces Next Office 8.2 office suite on August 16. This lanuch
marks another powerful version since the official lanuch of 8.0
in this January. The newly release 8.2 version leverages the latest
Open Office kernel, supporting the Open Office Format advocated
by OASIS and provides improve document compatibility with MS Office
document (“.doc”, “.dot”, “.xls”, “.xlt”, “.ppt” and “.pot”) formats.

Moreover, Next Office fully supports the open file format XML (Extensible
Markup Language) that was defined by W3C. As this open file format

are becoming a standard in information exchange. By converting your
data to
XML format, you can save your time of re-entering your data for
various
application.
Other than improving the user interface of Next Dictionary, we
have also
polished the content. For example, in the bundled Webster's dictionary,
word
“test” is shown with 13 different meanings. You can press the “Speak”
button to request Next Dictionary to pronounce the word in English
or
PuTongHua. Or you may press the “Speak Content” button to request
Next
Dictionary to pronounce the word explanation in English or PuTongHua.
Moreover, Next Dictionary is now integrated with Next Office, what
you have
highlighted in your document will be automatically transferred to
Next
Dictionary. This saves a lot of your effort of retyping the words.
Next Office has added Text-To-Speech capability to Text Processor,
Spreadsheet, Presentation and Drawing. The TTS function provides
a easy way
for you to improve your English and PuTongHua. All you needed is
to select
and highlight part of the document content, press the “Next Speak”
icon in
the function bar, Next Office will automatically use a mix of English
and
PuTongHua to pronounce your selected content. For example, you can
use this
function to do self-rehearsal with your presentation.
The conversion between Chinese Traditional and Chinese Simplified
capability
is based on current selection. You can press <Crtl-A> to select
the whole
document and then press the “Convert Big5/GB” button to convert
from
Chinese Traditional to Chinese Simplified or vice versa. Even if
you are
using Spreadsheet, Presentation and Drawing, the same conversion
mechanism
applies. This approach is even more user-friendly than MS Office.
Next Office now comes with MS Office icon emulation. Previously,
if the user
has no MS Office installed, using OpenOffice (or its derivatives)
will
result a quite misleading icons for MS Office documents because
all Excel,
Powerpoint and Word documents are using the same icon and therefore
causing
confusion to end users. Next Office 8.2 solves this problem and
further
improve the MS Office compatibility.

channels
by support mail-merge e-mail and mail-merge mass fax. Next Office
mass fax
requires Windows fax service. The benefit is no additional fax software
is
required.
